Gratinated Bread Valais-style (Walliser Käseschnitte)

Ingredients

  • 8 large slices of dry bread
  • 2 dl white wine
  • 8 slice raw ham
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 4 large tomatoes
  • 600 g mountain cheese from Valais or Graubünden

Instructions

  1. Moisten 8 slices of dry bread with white wine
  2. Put on each one slice of raw ham
  3. Add 3 slices of tomatoes per slice of bread
  4. Press 2 cloves of garlic and spread them over the tomatoes
  5. Cut the cheese in slices and add 1-2 slices on each bread
  6. Bake at 15-18 minutes (until the cheese has melted) at 220 degrees circulating air
