Blue Cheese Potato Gratin / Blauschimmelkäse Kartoffelgratin

Ingredients

  • 800g waxed potatoes / festkochende Kartoffeln
  • 1 yellow onion / gelbe Zwiebel
  • 3 dl double cream / Vollrahm
  • 3dl milk / Milch
  • 200 g blue cheese, eg Gorgonzola / Blauschimmelkäse, zB Gorgonzola
  • Butter
  • Salt, Pepper, ground nutmeg / Salz, Pfeffer, geriebene Muskatnuss

Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into 5 mm thick sticks (like French fries). Finely chop the onion. Cut the blue cheese into small cubes.
  2. Heat the butter in a casserole dish and sauté the onions.
  3. Add the milk, cream, cheese, potatoes and 1 tsp of salt, ground pepper, and ground nutmeg and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook the potatoes over low heat, stirring occasionally, until tender (about 25 minutes).
  4. Then gratinate in the oven at 240°C using the top heat/grill function for about 25 minutes, until nicely golden brown.

 

  1. Kartoffeln schälen und in 5 mm breite Stäbchen (wie Pommes Frites) schneiden. Zwiebel fein hacken. Blue Cheese in kleine Würfel schneiden.
  2. Butter in Bräter erhitzen und Zwiebeln andünsten.
  3. Milch, Rahm, Käse und Kartoffeln zugeben und mit 1 TL Salz, gemahlenem Pfeffer und gemahlener Muskatnuss würzen und aufkochen. Temperatur reduzieren und unter gelegentlichem Rühren bei niedriger Temperatur die Kartoffeln gar kochen (ca. 25 Minuten)
  4. Anschliessend bei 240 Grad Oberhitze/Grill den Gratin ca 25 Minuten im Backofen überbacken, bis er schön goldenbraun ist.
